Austin’s Airport Expecting Major October Traffic

With the return of ACL Fest, Formula 1 and MotoGP, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is advising travelers to expect a busier-than-usual terminal experience.

July 2021 was the fifth-busiest month on record for the airport.  And as airports across the nation have seen a surge in passengers, officials in Austin are warning that October is typically the busiest month of the year, often breaking single-day passenger records.

To mitigate the chance of missing a flight, officials recommend that travelers give themselves plenty of time for parking, checking luggage, obtaining a boarding pass, and passing through security.  In recent months, lines at TSA checkpoints have grown very large as early as 4:00 a.m., and lines are anticipated to be particularly long throughout each morning until at least 9:00 a.m.

Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday have historically been the airport’s busiest days, officials say, with the Sunday afternoons and Monday mornings following festival and race weekends anticipated to be exceptionally busy.
