Austin’s controversial deal for an MLS stadium remains unchanged

Austin's controversial deal for an MLS stadium remains unchanged

Travis County, ACC, AISD, and Central Health will remain muscled out of a deal between Austin and Precourt Sport Ventures for a Major League Soccer stadium, which lets Precourt build and maintain the stadium while paying no property taxes.

The city council has been accused of undercutting every other taxing entity by allowing Precourt Sports Ventures to build the stadium.

Senate Bill 1771 would reverse that, but State Senator Paul Bettencourt has since amended his bill to allow the Precourt deal to stand, as is.

Bettencourt said he wants to spare these partnerships from having to be rewritten.

After September 1, similar deals will have to include all taxing entities.
