Back to school good for retailers

The first day of school is just weeks away and that means back to school shopping.

Back to school sales are big bucks.  Scott Benedict with the Texas A&M Center for Retailing Studies, says the average family spends almost $700, not including extra bells and whistles that catch their eyes.

It’s estimated back to school shopping is an $81-billion purchase period, and the vast majority of it is still done in brick and mortar store, not online, which gives a real shot in the arm to the local economy.
