University of Texas men’s basketball coach Chris Beard was arrested early Monday morning following a 911 call regarding a domestic disturbance.
According to the Austin Police Department, Beard, 49, was booked into the Travis County Jail around 4:18 a.m. for “assault family violence/strangulation”, a felony charge carrying with it a potential decade in prison.
The reported victim refused treatment when Austin-Travis County EMS was on-scene.
Officials with the University of Texas released a statement saying: “The University is aware of the situation regarding Chris Beard. We are continuing to gather information and monitoring the legal process.”
As of 9:00 a.m., Beard was still in the Travis County Jail.
