Bill would cut school property taxes

tax bill representation

The Texas House has passed a bill to cut property taxes in half, but with a catch. Representative Andrew Murr’s bill would eliminate the largest part of a school property tax bill, but the state would have to come up with the 23 billion dollars to pay for that. He says that could mean a huge sales tax increase, which he doesn’t favor.

The catch is the bill wouldn’t take effect until 2022, giving lawmakers time to figure out how to pay for it.
