A bomb threat at Buc-ee’s in Bastrop has been cleared. Representatives from the Austin Police Department’s Bomb Squad-Unit, Bastrop County Sherriff’s Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Bastrop County Emergency Services District #2, Bastrop Police Department and Bastrop Fire Department worked the scene.
The store was evacuated on Sunday but officials have given staff an all clear to return and the store should be reopening soon.
“Threats of this nature are taken very seriously. The safety of our residents, our visitors, Buc-ee’s staff and our public safety personnel remain our top priority,” said Public Safety Director Chief James Altgelt. “I am thankful to Austin Police Chief Brian Manley and the Austin Bomb Squad-unit, our partners at the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Bastrop County Sherriff’s Office and Emergency Services District #2, and to the men and women of the Bastrop Police and Fire Departments for their response this evening.”
Although the threat has been cleared and no evidence of any explosive device was located the incident is an ongoing investigation. Officials have no reason to believe this was anything other than an isolated incident and do not believe there is any further threat to public safety at this time.
