Capital Metro CEO Randy Clarke has released a statement in the wake of a bus fire that led to an hours-long shutdown of lanes on the 183A toll road in Cedar Park. In the statement, Clarke also addresses a crash involving two Cap Metro buses on Friday, which sent nine people to the hospital with injuries:
“The crash on Friday and mechanical failure this morning affected our customers and other roadway users. We apologize for the disruption and inconvenience.
Due to this morning’s mechanical failure, we’ve pulled every bus from that model series off the road and are doing an in-depth review. We also have an ongoing investigation of Friday’s incident.
I want to thank our partners at Austin Police, Cedar Park, Travis County and Williamson County. This is a great example of us all working together.”
Following Tuesday’s fire, Capital Metro pulled 28 of its commuter buses out of service for inspection. They were all later allowed to return to the street for Wednesday operations.
The driver of the bus that rear-ended another bus last week is currently on paid leave but has not been cited by Austin police.
