Cedar Park may be eyeing a smoking ban for private businesses

While you can’t smoke in public buildings in Cedar Park, private businesses still have the option to make their own choice on the matter.  But the city council is now discussing imposing new regulations on the private sector when it comes to smoking.  Council member Rodney Robinson said he’s torn between a business’s right to choose, and public health and safety, but Robinson worries about impressionable young children, or the overall health aspect of smoking in private establishments.

Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce President Tony Moline said it should be left up to the individual business, not the city government.  The Chamber of Commerce also said a decision to impose a smoking ban on the private sector a “slippery slope” toward other intrusive regulations.

As of now, council has taken no action on this.
