You could start the new year with something extra in your pocket. The State Comptroller’s Office is asking people to check its website claimittexas.org to see if you have any unclaimed property being held by the state. Kevin Lyons with the Comptroller’s Office says there are all kinds of things in the vault, including cash, checks and even antiques that were held in safety deposit boxes that were abandoned by their owners. He says the average claim is worth around $1,000.
