Austin has said over and over it doesn’t like a proposed 2.5-percent limit on local property tax growth without voter approval to go higher.
Smaller communities like Lago Vista are concerned about the bill at the legislature that would put a 2.5 percent limit on local property tax growth without voter approval to go higher. Mayor Ed Tidwell worries voters may make uninformed decisions that could impact crucial city services.
Tidwell said he supports property tax reform, but he worries that giving voters the final say on raising revenue beyond 2.5-percent could lead to a lot of uninformed votes, leading to cuts in services like the library, swimming pools, and parks.
