That ordinance, which has been wildly popular with progressive labor groups and equally unpopular with many small business owners, was set to take effect on October 1. But following an injunction issued in August, implementation has been temporarily blocked.
But the city’s legal department says it is filing paperwork to challenge that injunction in the hopes of getting their plan of forcing businesses to offer paid sick time back on track. If the ordinance does take effect, business owners will have to pay one hour of sick time for every 30 hours workd up to 64 hours, or eight full paid days a year.
