The City of Austin will spend the next several months meeting with six other cities to get a feel for how they handle civilian oversight of police.  The Austin Police Department is concerned about modeling Austin’s policies after other states, and council member Ellen Troxclair worries APD could go even longer without a contract because of this, she also said it seems like there is a possibility of new information coming in November that may prolong negotiations.

Police Monitor Farah Muscadin has a plan to see how Seattle, San Francisco, San Jose, Denver, Minneapolis, and New Orleans deal with civilian oversight of police, and base Austin’s model on those cities.  Critics within APD say what works in other states should not be a model for Texas.
