Indigent defense cases in Travis County are handled by Capital Area Private Defender Service and they are slammed.
Travis County Commissioners will look at whether setting up a Public Defender office within the county for those cases is a good idea. The County’s Hector Nieto says it could cost at least $15 million dollars.
The Texas Indigent Defense Commission says it’s feasible and desirable for Travis County to take that step.
