Cost of operating Austin's new sobriety center may continue to climb

No one who is brought to the Austin-Travis County is charged for their stay.  That’s where you, the taxpayer come in.  The City of Austin is already planning to spend $1.7-million in taxes to fund operations, but Assistant City Manager Ray Arellano said that isn’t going to be enough.

Arellano says the true cost of operating this center won’t be known until next year, meaning the likelihood that even more money will be requested in the coming months is fairly high.
