The Circuit of the Americas will not be reimbursed by the State of Texas for its human trafficking prevention plan during last year’s F1 race, and the reason is because of a simple missed deadline.
COTA was planning on a reimbursement from the state’s Major Events Reimbursement Program, but the state requires that the plan be officially submitted no less that 30 days prior to an event. COTA did not submit its official plan until less than three weeks prior to the F1 race.
State officials say their hands are tied since the fund clearly states the requirements for receving money back, including the deadline.
Because of the error, COTA will receive $0 instead of the anticipated $20-million.
