COVID-19 Cases Hit Triple-Digits in Austin, Travis County

Labor Day Weekend Covid 19

Coronavirus confirmations continue to rise across Austin and Travis County.  As of Thursday morning, Austin Public Health is reporting 119 confirmations of COVID-19 with sustained person-to-person spread.  Travis County’s total is by far the most out of any Central Texas county, and many doctors believe the true number of cases is far higher, possibly well into the hundreds.

In Williamson County, which has the second-highest number in the area, the total has risen once again to 22.  Bastrop County has now confirmed its second case.

Hays County’s total has climbed to 11 this week.  Not only has a shelter-at-home order been issued by County Judge Ruben Becerra, but a curfew will also take effect at 11:00 p.m. tonight, running until 4:00 a.m. through April 10.  More than half of the county’s 11 cases were transmitted from person-to-person, making that curfew a necessary next step, Becerra says.

Caldwell County is still reporting zero confirmed cases.

Across the state, the Department of State Health Services reports 974 cases of COVID-19 and 12 deaths.  On Wednesday, the number of deaths was at 11.
