3. COULD RHETORIC BE IMPACTING THE JOB PERFORMANCE OF POLICE AND FIRE?
A new UT study finds a correlation between anti-police rhetoric and the willingness of some officers to be proactive while on the job.
The study surveyed 183 cops as well as 238 firefighters and found those who felt disconnected to the public were far less likely to take a proactive approach to their jobs.
The study’s authors say they want to highlight the support first responders actually have, and find a way to improve their public image.

4. TAX DELINQUENCY PLAGUES EAST AUSTIN.
There are more tax-delinquent properties in East Austin than anywhere else in the city, specifically in the 78702 zip code.
Tax collector Bruce Elfant tells KXAN it’s a symptom of gentrification. The zip code has 357 delinquent properties totaling more than $3.3-million owed.
While the city council has said it would like to pay off those properties for the homeowners, state law won’t allow it.
