The Del Valle Independent School district has officially cut the ribbon on the new Hornsby-Dunlap Elementary School. The new building replaces what was previously the Hornsby-Dunlap building, which was built in 1960. The new 103,000-square-foot building is directly behind the previous school building at 4601 Hounddog Trail.
“This building embodies what we believe about our students, that they deserve the best. When you go about the building you’ll see sensory walls and natural light, all that was done purposefully,” Superintendent Dr. Annette Tielle said, “The attention to detail was purposefully planned out so we could create the best learning environment.”
The original 1960 building, which is the oldest in the district, will be demolished in the spring.
The project is part of the district’s 2019 Bond approved by voters in November 2019.
Students return to class on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
