Despite new reform, Austin ISD still sending large amounts of the money to the state

State Capitol

The state’s recapture, also known as Robin Hood, will be $3.6 billion smaller this year, but that’s reduced AISD’s recapture payment by nearly $61 million.  However, despite that significant drop, AISD is still on the hook to send $612 million to the state this year.

AISD Chief of Finance Nicole Conley-Johnson said the district is still sending a significant amount of your tax dollars to the state to be handed over to poorer districts.  AISD’s payment remains one of the highest in the state.

Valle ISD CFO David Edgar puts that into perspective and said this year’s payment is enough to fund Del Valle ISD’s entire operating budget nearly six times over.
