The death penalty issue took on unexpected urgency when the Justice Department announced that it will begin executing federal death row inmates for the first time since 2003.
That again raises the political stakes on a topic that’s rarely been a Democratic strength…And while the party is now much more unified in opposing it than a generation ago, the public is not – potentially casting a long policy shadow over the upcoming presidential primary.

Texas’ unemployment rate is at a very low 3.6-percent, and one industry in particular is really struggling to fill its ranks. John Esparza with the Texas Trucking Organization says there’s a real shortage of manpower and it’s expected to double in the next decade.
“As freight continues to grow, population continues to grow, the State of Texas continues to get more people, so does freight follow,” Esparza says.
Esparza says compensation really isn’t an issue since some truckers make six-figure salaries. He says the real problem is that the newer generations just don’t find the career to be appealing.

Despite it being widely known that guns can’t be carried onto planes, a large number of people are still getting caught with them in their bags at Austin’s airport. Ignacio Reyes with the TSA tells KVUE not only does it not end well for the person with the gun, but all other passengers in line suffer too.
“Imagine all the lines with heavy travel — 4th of July or whatever — and then someone has a weapon they forgot, and it just stops the flow,” Reyes says.
At least eight guns have been confiscated this month. Last year, TSA found 93 guns, which was the 8th-most in the nation.
