Downtown Austin Businesses feel abandoned as city grapples with homelessnes

Homeless

Three people in Austin’s homeless community have been involved in stabbings in the past week, and downtown businesses continue to plea with city leaders for help.  Laura Brown, owner of Vince Young Steakhouse told KLBJ’s Todd and Don Show, they pay far too much money every month to be constantly plagued by these problems. “We’re paying five figure, high five figure in rent every month and that is alot of money for a restaurant… so I mean we are working hard, we’ve been here ten years, we have a great staff, and this is a constant everyday occurrence.”
She said their employees are now afraid to park and walk the short 50-yards it takes to get into the building. She explained her husband has sevveral run-ins with the homelss, and detailed an incident. “A Guy’s out deficating in the parking lot, and my husband goes out there, ‘hey man you can’t be here.’ So what does the guy do, try to spit on him and keys his car.”
She said, the city council is willingly turning a blind eye to the problems they created, adding that many businesses in downtown Austin feel completely abandoned by their elected leaders.
