The Austin Police Department’s latest No Refusal period yielded dozens of arrests. Along with increase DWI enforcement, APD’s No Refusal Initiative ran from December 17 through January 1. During that time, 75 people were taken off of the street for driving drunk.

Of those arrests, the following number had enhanced DWI charges:
Consent Breath Samples over .15= 19
Class A Misd DWI (with prior conviction) = 7
Felony DWI (2 or more prior convictions) = 4
Child Passenger Felony = 1
Drunk drivers contribute to a significant number of deadly wrecks each year across the nation. Within Austin, 119 people were killed in crashes through 2020, marking the highest number of traffic deaths ever recorded in a single year for the city.
