Texas could take a big economic hit as President Donald Trump threatens Mexico with tariffs.
According to Economist Dr. Ray Perryman Texas is an export state, and anytime trade is threatened, Perryman says it messes with Texas. He points at the recent slowdown of commerce at the border prior to Trump’s tariff announcement that cost the state economy billions.
Perryman says when it comes to tariffs, it is the consumer that ends up footing the bill, not countries. Texas Governor Greg Abbott is also against the tariffs, citing the negative effects it would have on the local economy.
