As Austin continues to grapple with a growing homeless population, efforts are still ongoing to raise hundreds of millions of dollars to put a roof over the heads of thousands of people.
On Wednesday, Homeless Strategy Officer Dianna Gray updated the Public Safety Committee on the “Finding Home ATX” effort.
“As of November 2 — so, just over a month ago — we were at 87 percent of that total $515 million goal,” Gray said. “And we’re able to announce that, in addition to the public funds committed to the effort, we have secured just under $50 million.”
That additional $50 million comes from private sector funding.
The City of Austin has paid in the bulk of the money raised so far, Gray said, to the tune of $228 million.
“That’s a combination of new general funds that had been committed during this period, general obligation bonds, and other capital dollars. But, significantly, $106.7 million in funds from the American Rescue Plan Act, which we are in the process of deploying now in the community.”
The end goal for the effort is to create 3000 new housing units by the end of 2024.
