The City of Cedar Park and Williamson County are hosting the Grand Opening Ceremony for Fire Station Number 5 on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 4 p.m. at 1501 Cottonwood Creek Trail. This new fire station houses the Cedar Park Fire Department as well as the Williamson County EMS. At the ceremony, City and County leaders and staff will be joined by chiefs, directors, firefighters and paramedics from the Cedar Park Fire Department and Williamson County EMS. The ceremony will begin with a blessing of the new station, the fire hose un-coupling and the station tones from emergency dispatchers to open the station. It will end with the ceremonial push of Quint 5 into the station. Station tours will follow until 6 p.m.
Fire Station Number 5 is a 2016 Capital Improvements Project (CIP) funded primarily by 2015 Bond Election funds, and includes additional funding from short-term tax notes and Williamson County. Construction began in September 2017. The Fire Station is approximately 13,250 square feet and includes space for one EMS crew, an EMS Commander and future space for a second EMS crew. The new station is located near the intersection of Cottonwood Creek Trail and La Jaita Drive on land donated by Cedar Park Regional Medical Center in 2014.
Teal Construction was the General Contractor for the project. The construction contract totaled just under $4.43 million, which is more than $570,000 below the construction budget for the project. Teal Construction, Inc. has been in business for 70 years providing general contracting services for commercial construction projects and has constructed many fire stations across the state of similar size, scope and complexity.
The design architect for the project was BRW Architects (Ray Holliday and Justin Dryer). The City’s Third Party Project Representative was AGCM, Inc. (Stephen Karp). The City’s design team was led by Fire Chief James Mallinger, Assistant Chief Adam Story, and Project Manager Randy Lueders.
