Southbound I-35 was shut down for hours in north Austin following a major wreck near Parmer Lane.
According to the Austin Police Department, 17 vehicles, including a semi-truck, were involved in the crash, which happened around 11:20 p.m. Thursday night. Five people were pronounced dead on scene, including an infant and a young child. 11 people were transported to the hospital, five of whom were said to have life-threatening injuries.
An investigation is still underway.
