State health officials say the flu season could be much worse than what we’ve seen so far,or at least when it comes to school-aged kids coming down with the flu. We have seen a couple of districts in the Austin-area close entirely for days at a time because so many kids were sick — those being McDade and Lago Vista — but Lara Anton with the Department of State Health Services says that’s not at all out of the ordinary.
Despite a lot of reports of outbreaks, Anton says flu cases are down from other years. That said, she also warns that we don’t know if the season has peaked, and we won’t know for weeks after it already peaked.
