GISD considers swim center

Voters will decide on a major addition to the Georgetown school district.

The school board is considering a partnership with the YMCA to bring a massive new swim facility to the district.  Jeff Van Driesen with the YMCA says it would be a shared-use facility including due-paying members that could become an extra revenue stream for the district.

So if voters say yes in November, Georgetown ISD will pay $15.5-million for the facility, the Y would add other amenities.  Van Driesen says it’s a far cheaper option than having the district pay full price with no partnership.
