A good Samaritan is recovering from his injuries following an attack last week on the Congress Avenue bridge. Mark Dolan claims a homeless man left him battered and bruised after he was roughed up trying to save a woman who was also under attack.
According to Dolan, he was jogging on Congress Avenue when he noticed the man violently attacking a woman who was part of a group visiting Austin from Los Angeles. That woman, Ashley Goodrich, says it all happened very fast, telling Fox 7 that before she knew what was even happening, the man was on top of her.
“He, like, lunged towards me and the last thing I remember is him saying, ‘I’m gonna F you up.’ But he just started wailing on me,” she says.
In that same story from Fox 7, Dolan says he then leapt into action, pulling the man off of Goodrich and allowing her to run off to the nearby LINE Hotel.
“The guy followed me,” Dolan says. “And as I entered the door of the restaurant at the LINE, he hit me in the back of my head a couple of times before I even knew what happened.”
Dolan suffered numerous bruises and swelling on his ear. His injuries also required several stitches in his head.
Goodrich says she was jarred by the shock and trauma of the incident, which left her with a different opinion of the City of Austin than she had when she arrived.
“I don’t ever want to come back here,” she told police after she was asked whether or not she wanted to press charges.
The alleged attacker, Timothy Mitchell, has been slapped with multiple charges, including two counts of assault causing bodily injury, possession of drug paraphernalia, and public intoxication.
