Governor Greg Abbott orders more DPS troopers to patrol in Austin. Two people have been stabbed in less than a week, and both incidents involved the homeless community in Austin. In response now, Governor Abbott has ordered an increase in DPS presence in Downtown Austin and around the UT campus. The exact number of extra troopers is still being determined. In response to the governor’s latest criticism of Austin and its homeless problems, Mayor Steve Adler again says Austin is one of the safest cities in America, also saying he thinks the Governor should follow the lead of California Governor Gavin Newsom, who this week asked for $1-billion in aid to help his state reduce the rapidly growing homeless population there.
