Scandal is rocking the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office in the wake of the death of Javier Ambler while in custody.
Ambler died in March 2019 when a chase that began in Williamson County ended in Travis County. Ambler had a heart condition and reportedly told deputies, but was tazed and then later died. Two Williamson County Commissioners want Sheriff Robert Chody to resign as a result.
Commissioner Russ Boles says Sheriff Robert Chody has done the county no favors by not being forthcoming, “we know how Sheriff Chody is handling this…he doesn’t cooperate. I’d really like to know how County Attorney Dee Hobbs is handling this.” Williamson County Commissioners have officially called on Chody to resign.
Ambler died in Travis County, and Travis County DA Margaret Moore said Chody is refusing to turn over footage captured on the Live PD network TV cameras. Sheriff Chody refuted these claims, he said his office has no control of Live PD footage, and his office remains willing and able to participate in the investigation.
