Killing a young child has been a capital offense for years, but not killing children between ages 10 and 14. That will change under a bill awaiting Governor Abbott’s signature. The bill is named after Lauren Landavazo, murdered when she was 13. Her father Vern says she always wanted to help people and now she will continue to do that.
The bill means that those convicted will be automatically sentenced to life without parole.
