Numerous taxing districts across Central Texas have been calling bond elections for November. The City of Kyle is now the latest to do so. The Kyle City Council voted Monday to seek voter-approval to borrow $294 million this fall, which would address a range of different transportation projects that will facilitate east-west connectivity in the city.
In all, eight projects would be funded by the bond dollars totaling more ten miles of new or rebuilt roadways. They include:
- Bebee Road – 2.8 miles
- Bunton Creek Road – 1.2 miles
- Center Street – 2.2 miles
- Center Street (On-System) – 0.4 miles
- Kohler’s Overpass – 1.2 miles
- Kyle Parkway – 1.3 miles
- Marketplace Avenue – 0.6 miles
- Old Stagecoach Road – 2.2 miles
- Windy Hill Road – 0.6 miles
Jeff Burton, co-founder of urban planning infrastructure firm Gap Strategies, updated the council on Monday night.
“A number of you have mentioned over the last few months the desire to see more economic development, more amenities that are available to residents on the east side of Kyle,” Burton said. “Part of that comes from having the right infrastructure.”
Burton said he believes this bond is what will get the city to that place of new economic growth.
