Lakeway considers a plan to mitigate its wildfire risk. City Forester Carrie Burns says Hamilton Greenbelt has a Fire Intensity Scale Rating of 4.5 out of 5.
In an effort to stave off a potential catastrophic blaze, the council is considering Burns’ proposed $777,000 mitigation plan to clear brush and create 100-foot gaps in vegetation between homes and the greenbelt, as well as five other tracts of land. The plan would take four years, and that proposed money would come from leftover bond cash for the police facility.
