Local governments and land owners are in court with a gas pipeline company

Gavel

Going on in a packed Austin district courtroom this afternoon, a lawsuit that pits a gas pipeline company against Hays County, The City of Kyle and private landowners.

Here’s KLBJs Eric Leikam to tell us what’s going on…

KXAN reports that Kinder-Morgan wants to run that gas pipeline from West Texas to Katy, Texas just outside of Houston and would have to go through some environmentally sensitive parts of Central Texas. The company and the Texas Railroad Commission are trying to get the suit dismissed.

There’s a lot of controversy with this suit isn’t there?

Yes, Kinder-Morgan says they’ve done their due diligence in communicating their intentions with the pipeline but the landowners say otherwise. Lana Nance, who lives near Kyle says no one from Kinder-Morgan or the Texas Railroad Commission ever asked her about where the Permian Highway Pipeline would run through her property, which sits along the Blanco River. Nance has been trying to get the county to build a bridge there to help connect rural residents to stores and other services but believes the pipeline could prevent that bridge from being built. Others say Kinder-Morgan and the state have not been as forthcoming as they claim to have been.

This suit is expected to continue into tomorrow.
