Austin police have arrested one man in connection to a major crash in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 30, 2023. Officers responded to that crash between an SUV and a sedan in the 4700 block of I-35 and found the SUV on fire, and the sedan empty.
Four people died in the SUV, and a fifth person was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the sedan has been identified as Alvin Wright, 35. Police say he immediately fled the scene after the crash and was arrested a short time later. Wright now faces four charges of Intoxication Manslaughter, as well as four charges of Failure to Stop and Render Aid.
The crash was Austin’s 54th of the year, resulting in the 57th fatality on the roadway. On the same date in 2022, APD numbers show 62 fatal wrecks resulting in 63 deaths.
