Manor ISD is hoping to get ahead of student growth.
Officials say they have about 9000 students currently, but expect that number to double in five years.
So the district is considering repurposing Manor Elementary (MES) into an all Pre-K campus and shift all the older students to Lagos Elementary. Officials say MES is not being used to its fullest capacity and with eight other campuses with bursting pre-k classes, they see a win in the idea.
At a Town hall meeting at Manor Elm., MISD Teacher Myra Aguirre said it is a great opportunity for Pre-K parents trying to find a classroom for their kids and most though it was a fine idea. But other parents were worried about what impact the added stress of going to a new school would have on their kids education.
District leaders say, nothing is set in stone, and they will have more public meetings to get parent feedback. Those meetings will be held from 6:30pm-7:30pm Tuesday and Thursday Tuesday and Thursday (Feb 5th and 7th) at Manor Elementary School.
