It was May of 2021 that Austin managed to regain all of the pandemic-related job losses that were seen in the area. Since then, the growth has been quite robust. According to the Austin Chamber of Commerce’s CenTex Economy Report for July, Austin is now the 7th best performing metro in the nation.
For the 12 months ending in July 2022, nearly 71,000 jobs were added to local payrolls. That represents a growth of 6%, the Chamber says.
Austin’s leisure and hospitality sector added 700 jobs in July, which follows an extraordinary 5700 jobs in June.
Overall employment now tops pre-pandemic levels in February 2020 by more than 8000 jobs.
The unemployment rate for Austin remains unchanged from June at 2.9%
