It takes an inordinate amount of time for the Austin Fire Department to respond to emergencies in the Berdoll Farms area.
That makes homeowners insurance more expensive for residents there but next month that will change. Austin Firefighters Association President Bob Nicks says a new fire station will open up there, thanks to a clever idea of converting an unused tollbooth into a temporary fire station.
The booth was never used and was able to be converted for a paltry forty thousand dollars. It opens on October 1st.
