The Austin Round Rock job market continues to grow.

The Austin Chamber of Commerce’s Beverly Kerr reported, the metro is the second fastest growing in the country’s top 50. From October 2017 to October 2018 the market added 40,400 jobs.

Looking at the top three largest job industries, Wholesale Trade grew the fastest (13.5{facfe2172b04f299937824a9c1283369198151460b73c952acd056710c9bd5ea}) and added the most jobs (7,100). Professional Business Services was weaker than usual adding just 7,000 at a growth rate of 3.9{facfe2172b04f299937824a9c1283369198151460b73c952acd056710c9bd5ea}. Leisure and Hospitality grew by 5.3{facfe2172b04f299937824a9c1283369198151460b73c952acd056710c9bd5ea} bringing in 6,800 jobs.

While those three make up for more than half of the new jobs, Kerr said what made the metro stand out was the return of the Government sector.

“it is finally adding jobs again year over year…we had gone about a year with negative job Government growth, which is unusual here.” She said this sector added 2,600 jobs.
