On-street parking along parts of Lady Bird Lake, near Austin High School, may no longer be free by the end of the summer. Jason Redfern with the Transportation Department said even though this would impact parts of Austin High, the city would take the lead. Redfern states that it’s a better use of time for the City of Austin parking enforcment to enforce the meters than have AISD police the meters.
If the council approves the plan, meters would be installed on Veterans Drive and Atlanta Street, which is an area that is highly trafficked by runners and cyclists.
