Pflugerville City Council awarded the $1.595 million construction contract for Wilbarger Creek Park to QA Construction Services Inc. at the Tuesday, March 12 City Council Meeting. Construction is expected to begin in April and includes playground areas, outdoor classroom space, a youth velo-way, a practice field, parking, trails and restrooms on 10.5 acres of this 104.42 acre park.
The new park is located at the southwest corner of Kingston Lacy Boulevard and Craters of the Moon Boulevard in the Highland Park subdivision. Construction on the park is anticipated to be complete in early 2020.
One of Wilbarger Creek Park’s unique features is the youth velo-way, a cycling track used by non-motorized wheeled vehicles, which is the first of its kind in a Pflugerville park. Adjacent to Wilbarger Creek, the park includes passive recreational areas and increases access to the naturesque area. Included in the park’s design is educational signage throughout the park highlighting the natural process of waterways within the park and wildlife frequently found along the creek. Most of Wilbarger Creek Park will remain natural parkland with plenty of room to explore. A trail will run through the park, connecting Craters of the Moon Boulevard with Highland Park Trail to Mammoth Cave Boulevard.
Wilbarger Creek Park was part of the Trails Master Plan & Underdeveloped Parks Study completed in 2014. The funding for this project is from 2014 General Obligation Bonds approved by voters and with Parkland Dedication funds.
