Big changes are coming to the I-35/US 183 interchange, including the long-term closure of an existing flyover and the opening of two newly constructed flyovers.

Northbound Flyover MapOn Sunday, April 25 at 10 p.m., the Texas Department of Transportation will close the existing northbound I-35 to northbound US 183 flyover, weather permitting. During the closure, crews will demolish and reconstruct a portion of the flyover. Construction is expected to last approximately four months, TxDOT says.Southbound Flyover Closure Map

To accommodate this reconstruction, a long-term detour will be put in place. Northbound I-35 drivers wishing to access northbound US 183 will use the Rundberg Lane exit (#241) and take the non-signalized U-turn at Rundberg Lane to access the new southbound I-35 to northbound US 183 flyover.  To manage traffic flow, the U-turn at Rundberg Lane will be closed to local traffic. Drivers will need to use the signalized intersection at Rundberg Lane to access the southbound I-35 frontage road.

Also on Sunday, April 25 at 11 p.m., the southbound I-35 to northbound US 183 and southbound I-35 to southbound US 183 flyovers will open providing direct access between the two highways. This marks a significant milestone in the project that will ultimately add three new flyovers to the interchange.

This $124.2 million Texas Clear Lanes project began construction in 2018 and is anticipated to be complete in late 2021.
