Proposed “Four-Foot” Sidewalk Enforcement for Homeless & Pedestrians Inconvenient for Law Enforcement

Yellow Tape Measure

A proposed “four-foot” sidewalk rule that would keep homeless campers at least four feet from pedestrians isn’t getting any support from law enforcement.

APD Assistant Chief Justin Newsom says the inconvenience lies in the fact that the department would have to issue tape measures to all of its officers.

Officers would need the tape measures to prove in a court of law that an offender had violated the four foot rule.

Newsom is in favor of enforcing a full sidewalk restrictment, something many city council members are opposed to.
