Protesters attempt to grind the Austin City Council meeting to a halt

Police arrest 12 people from the activist group ‘Defend Our Hoodz’ for trying to hijack and disrupt the city council meeting on multiple occasions.  Six people were arrested shortly after the meeting began.  Six others were arrested hours later for banging on the City Hall windows.  Police were heckled outside as they made the arrests.

The group opposes a new mixed-use development planned for Riverside Drive. They say it will gentrify the neighborhood.

Mayor Steve Adler struggled to maintain composure as the group stormed the council dais demanding the proposed development on Riverside be voted down.

The group has a history of this kind of thing.  Recently, they also attempted to hijack the Planning Commission meeting over this same development.
