The zombies descended upon Central Texas… and left a big mess on Petrichor Boulevard (formerly called Braker Lane). That’s the message from Travis County leaders who will decide on Tuesday whether or not to force cable network AMC to fork over $74,000 following a bit of a mess that was left behind while filming a portion of the series Fear the Walking Dead.
According to a county memo, the series was in the filming stages back on February 28 near East Metro Park. After showrunners called it a wrap, the cast and crew packed up and headed out, leaving behind trash and damage to county-owned curbs and sidewalks. Debris was left scattered along the road, despite an agreement with the county to fully restore the area once complete, the memo says.
Part of the crew’s cleaning process involved power washing the road, which stripped off the asphalt’s protective sealant and dislodged reflective material in the lane striping. That forced the county to rectify the mistake by reapplying the coating and completely restriping the road along that particular stretch.
The Travis County Commissioners Court is expected to approve sending that $74,000 bill to AMC.
Fear the Walking Dead, which is now into its fifth season, has filmed in Central Texas since its fourth season, which included Dell Diamond as a major backdrop throughout much of that season.
