Supporters of Inmate Rodney Reed rallied at the governor’s mansion Sunday, to protest, advocate, and celebrate.

What was to be another plea for Governor Greg Abbott to grant Reed clemency in his case turned into a celebration as just days before the rally in Downtown Austin, the Texas Appeals court ordered an indefinite stay of execution for Reed. (His execution date was Wednesday Nov 20th)

And while the Reed family is breathing a sigh of relief, they and advocates like spokeswoman for the Reed Justice Initiative, Randy Hensley say the fight is not over. “We had alot of celebrity presence on this case, which is amazing…What’s going to happen now is alot of the celebrities, their attention will go somewhere else, but ours can’t.”

Hensley said, though the court decision is good news for the Reed’s, it not enough to save Governor Greg Abbott, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Bastrop County DA Brian Goertz from activist pressure. She said to a crowd of Reed Supporters, “we have to send a clear message to Governor Abbott that we will not stand for it!”

The Court of criminal appeals also ordered Reed’s case back to Bastrop County for more hearings focused on new evidence and testimony some activist expect and even demand Reed be out of prison within one year.
