A police chase ended in an early morning crash in southwest Austin on Friday that forced the closure of all lanes of Highway 71, just west of the Y at Oak Hill.
According to the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy spotted a man and a woman getting out of a vehicle and switching seats. The deputy then tried to pull the vehicle over, but the drive sped away. Eventually, that chase led to the driver crashing and rolling the car, although officials have not reported any fatalities.
All lanes of Highway 71 were closed down on both the eastbound and westbound sides in the area between Silvermine Drive and Covered Bridge Road.
There has been no word on when the lanes may reopen.
