The Round Rock Independent School District Board of Trustees will convene on Saturday, September 18 to discuss possibly extending the current mask requirements on campus. At the board’s Tuesday, September 14 meeting, the mask mandate was on the agenda, however, multiple outbursts from angry parents and board members derailed the discussion, forcing the meeting to be rescheduled.
Many parents have previously spoken out in support of a full mask mandate that does not include an opt-out provision, and on Tuesday night several students also spoke out in favor of a similar mandate. It’s expected that the board will decide to extend its mask requirement, however, it’s unclear if any specific changes may be made to it.
Also on Tuesday night, the board was slated to discuss a “mask matrix” option, which would employ the use of a color-coded system when dealing with the wearing of masks. That may also be included in the discussions on Saturday.
