Kindergarten, 1st grade, 6th grade, and 9th grade will be the first levels to return to Austin school district campuses on October 5. The district says that’s because those are all transition years. Kids will remain in the same classroom all day to minimize contact with others. Meals will be served in the same room too. AISD will begin at 25-percent capacity.
It’s the first day back on campus for Round Rock students. About 30% are expected to be coming back to the classroom today, and Chief of Schools and Innovation Daniel Presley says those who are staying home will have to wait awhile before they can choose to return, saying those students will have to wait until the first 9-weeks of class is finished.
Any student who has returned to campus can shift back to virtual at any time. Personal protective equipment will also be made available on campus.
Other local school districts have already started up back in the classroom yesterday. They include Dripping Springs, Hutto, Lockhart, Manor, and Pflugerville. Next week, Elgin will also begin in-person classes.
